Why you shouldn’t always make your logo bigger
This is something we as designers hear a lot in the industry.
If you are a business owner and have felt disappointed when we have said no. Please take a moment just to hear us out 🙏.
Logo usage is more than just putting it anywhere and everywhere. Same goes with branding, it’s way more than just making the logo bigger!
Why designers say no
We honestly want the best for your brand. It’s not that we don’t want your business to be seen or we don’t think your brand is important. But it really comes to the primary focus of the designs. We want to keep the messaging clear.
Some examples:
You need a flyer for your next event
You need to present a strategy document to your boss
You want a menu for your restaurant
Build your trust first
You may actually be damaging your brand when you make your logo the focus.
Especially when your business is new to . This will in turn naturally make your brand stick!
Your brand is more than a logo
Something I’ve mentioned in the past. Your brand is more than a logo
If your business has a strong purpose and people can resonate with your why. This is much bigger than any logo that goes on the designs. Less really is more.
Think about your users/audience first
If it is a strategy document that you are presenting to your boss. The purpose of the document (i.e. the heading & its topics) is more important than the logo.
If it is a menu you are designing, the items going on the menu is more important than the logo. I think you feel where i’m heading. Think about your users or audiences first.
Right times to have your logo bigger
Of course there is a time and place for everything. Meaning there are times where you can have your logo be the primary focus.
Some examples of when logos CAN be bigger!
If you are an apparel company
If you are selling merchandise
If you have more examples of when it’s okay to have a bigger logo, or you’d love to discuss more about this topic. I would love to have a chat!
